London’s greatest business event

yBC is delighted to have been announced as the official online media partner of the “greatest” business event to hit London in 2012.

Taking place at the 02 Arena from 18-20 March 2012, Business 2012 is the brainchild of entrepreneur Vishal Mishal, a young entrepreneur with plenty of motivation and a track record in running hugely successful events.  Keynote speakers include Sir Richard Branson, Lord Sugar and a lineup of impressive entrepreneurs.  The event is also promoted in partnership with BlackBerry, Regus and the Telegraph Business Club.

One of the things yBC is contributing is a dedicated channel for this and future events run by Vishal’s company, Blak Pearl Limited. We’re also intending to interview all the best speakers and exhibitors.

You can view the trailer for the event by clicking the banner below.  But better than that would be to attend, wouldn’t it?

Wales gets social

I’m delighted to be attending and delivering a workshop at the upcoming What’s Next Event.  This event is focused on social media for business and will be the biggest of its kind ever to take place in Wales.

The brainchild of Allan Blair Beaton, the event has the support of various organizations, including HootSuite, Ecademy.com, the South Wales Chamber of Commerce, and of course yourBusinessChannel.

Speakers include “friends of the family” of yBC – British experts known for delivering top quality advice and guidance to SME’s.  Thomas and Penny Power of Ecademy, James Potter (the LinkedIn Man), digital marketer Mick Say, and of course Allan Blair Beaton himself. Plus plenty of other highly sought after digital media specialists, commentators and practitioners.

If you are based within striking distance of Cardiff, it will be a very worthwhile day out.  And unlike other social media events which seem to force you to consume information and advice which may not be appropriate to your business, this event is structured to give you maximum control and attend the sessions which are most relevant to your business.

For more information about the speakers, the workshops, location and more, watch the trailer below.

Branson: Space Cadet or Dreamer?

Branson chats with entrepreneur and Business 2012 founder Vishal Misal

Actually, both!

We had the pleasure of interviewing Richard Branson last week in a private suite at the delightfully trendy Haymarket Hotel in Central London. Not surprisingly, he’s a very interesting man to spend time with. Hugely successful, known for breaking the rules and shaking up industries: he’s the ultimate entrepreneurial success story.

He’s also a very likable chap who has the Midas touch when it comes to attracting and motivating very capable business people to work in his numerous businesses.

On his blog, he describes himself as “the smiley man with the beard”. A very accurate description.

Keep an eye out for a few short clips of Branson wisdom from this interview. Well worth a watch.

This interview was conducted in preparation for our involvement with the Business 2012 event.  Skip here for more information.

Big Data + Energy Challenges bring new business TV focus

Since December yourBusinessChannel has conducted three new interviews which take our Business Intelligence focus in to the Energy Space.

First we spoke with Sammy Haroon, adviser to our client Saffron Technology and the Organiser of the GE Energy Innovation Summit (video below). We are working with Sammy to create shows about how data can be used in the energy space to create entirely new business models as the grid gets smart. For example, energy might come to be seen not as a commodity, but as a value adder meaning it can be supplied to ‘have nots’ where traditional supply models don’t work.

Then yesterday we spoke with Franz Dill. A participant in the Energy Summit, Franz has a 30 year history in Artificial Intelligence/Business Intelligence for Procter & Gamble.  Franz joins our growing BI.tv lineup, looking at how we can use new technologies to make better decisions, predict the future and manage risk in turbulent times.

These two gentleman join the UK’s Steve O’Donnell who is actively involved as an advisor and director and investor in a number of Data Centre, Smart Grid and Sustainability businesses, including Iceotope, and Greenbang. Formerly Global Head of Data Centres at BT running the biggest IT Operation in Europe, Steve comments on the physical challenges of handling real time data.

yBC team at London Boat Show

The scale of one of the latest super-yachts from Princess is clear ...

Over the last few days, yBC has joined hundreds of other journalists, photographers and industry analysts, not to mention thousands of people with an interest in all things nautical, at the London Boat Show.

Held at the Excel convention centre a stone’s throw from Canary Wharf, the show focuses on the latest products, innovations and nautical contraptions to delight people who enjoy boating and water sports.  Encompassing multiple halls, the Boat Show is one of the biggest exhibitions to hit Excel annually, and from the size of some of the biggest boats, it’s easy to see why.

yBC is there in the lead up to the launch of its newest channel, the Marine Channel.  The channel is due to be launched in February 2012, and during the Boat Show yBC will be conducting some of the interviews which will be featured on this channel.  The channel will explore changes in the industry, innovations and the impact of changing global economic outlooks.  Watch this space.

Star studded cast discusses how Artificial Intelligence can save the markets (and our jobs)

In a world where volatility is the new reality, the past is no longer useful in predicting the future. From Stockmarkets to the ongoing Eurocrisis to the High Street,
we need to get comfortable with extreme events and rapid change. Once the stuff of science fiction, top experts like Dr Paul Hofmann believes that AI can help companies to be clever like Amazon or Apple – even if you only sell toothpaste

Also Featuring:
Julie Meyer, CEO, Ariadne Capital, Dragons Den
Adam Morallee Mishcon de Reya
Dr Paul Hofmann, VP Research SAP Labs
Sammy Haroon, Consultant, GE Energy
Keith Holdt, Swiss Post Solutions
Dr Manny Aparicio, Saffron Technologies
Gayle Sheppard, Saffron Technologies
Jasper Berens, JP Morgan Asset Management
Neil Evans, Head of solutions and sales, Occam DM

All aboard the “entrepreneur train”

Julie Meyer is an entrepreneur whose reputation precedes her.  Incredibly successful by anyone’s standards (just google her), Julie heads up a vibrant and results-focused business which is literally changing the playing field for smart technology companies in the UK and further afield.

She has a refreshingly unique perspective on the way entrepreneurs can get ahead.  She embraces (almost celebrates) the opportunities which arise as a result of the global financial crisis.

Julie is not just clever and focussed.  She’s also thoughtful, believable and likeable.  Her business acumen is garnished with a collaborative, ethical, refreshing approach to business which is inclusive, non-threatening and logical.  All of which makes Julie delightfully infectious.

We’ve completed some very interesting interviews in the last few months, and this is one of the ones that we’re very excited about editing and publishing in the near future.

Julie’s perspectives on what it takes for business leaders and entrepreneurs to be successful are a “must view” for anyone in business.

In our view, it should also be compulsory viewing for business leaders in established industries, politicians, and anyone looking for inspiration.

Look out for interview clips featuring Julie Meyer in the coming weeks; and in particular for the “entrepreneur train”.  Make sure you are on the platform when it comes through!

An Aviva believer

It didn’t take long for Aviva’s newest recruit [soon to be their CEO for the substantial UK business] to win us over.

Trevor Matthews is an experienced businessman who understands the global financial services markets better than most, having led a handful of impressive organizations in Australia, North America and the UK over the last two decades.  He’s also an incredibly pleasant man, and it’s instantly apparent why this combination of technical skill and relationship mastery makes him an effective business leader.

We interviewed Trevor as part of a series of interviews conducted in London recently for the Financial Planning Channel, soon to be launched in conjunction with the Institute of Financial Planning.  While Trevor offered a great deal of insight into the financial advisory industry, we also learned a great deal about his leadership style and some of the secrets to his success.  Very interesting stuff for anyone looking to innovate and drive performance in a challenging environment.  And clearly, great news for anyone who works at Aviva.

Watch this space for upcoming announcements about the Financial Planning Channel.

Business doesn’t get more intelligent than this

It seems that all of a sudden key decision makers and analysts in the corporate world are focusing more than ever before on something called “big data”.  To the uninitiated, it’s the industry of very clever, very technical and experienced people who are concerning themselves with how large enterprises can make the most sense of the increasing masses of data that they produce in the course of their business.  This is transformational stuff.

It’s clear that most organisations (in almost every industry) currently only utilise an embarrassingly small slice of the data they have access to.  Yet they rely on data to run their organisation efficiently, make the right decisions and to make revenue.  And this is precisely the opportunity gap which the business intelligence industry is focusing on.

yourBusinessChannel is in the process of developing a first round of content for Business Intelligence TV, a channel which we are launching over the next few months.  Initial interviewees include some of the most recognisable brands in the business world (including SAP), as well as experts in the business intelligence space such as Saffron Technology, who are making waves (more like Tsunamis).

What has taken us by surprise is the significant advancements of business intelligence which have either taken place recently or are taking place right now.  Advancements which are going to lead to transformational leaps by the world’s most innovative businesses in a broad range of industries.  This is certainly a space which business leaders should be keeping a close eye on over the coming months.

Coming soon: mining tv

yourBusinessChannel last week confirmed the launch of a brand new channel focusing on the mining industry.  Mining TV is due to launch during Q1 2012, with interviewees already in discussion with the channel.   The channel will focus on trends and issues affecting the mining industry, and will include interviews from companies with interest right around the globe.  More information will be posted soon.

Dubai or not Dubai …

An editorial team from yBC is heading to Dubai later this week for two conferences.  The first focuses on the hospitality industry and will involve interviews with 30 international hotel consultants from around the globe.  The second, which starts the next day, will focus on finance experts from around the world, covering corporate advisory, tax, audit and much more.  They are attending an annual conference which sees representatives from a network of well over 600 accountancy firms coming together for a few days each year.

The three days of shooting in Dubai will result in dozens of new interviews which will be included in at least three of yBC’s channels.  More soon …

Strategic sales team supported by yBC for multi hundred million dollar deal

A team of business development specialists at yBC has just come off “high alert” after delivering a key piece of work to a pen-European client.  Our client, an outsourcing and technology business, has been in the midst of pitch to a global financial services leader.  The pitch took place earlier this week in the three major cities on three continents, and the yBC team was pivotal in preparing and delivering a high impact information tool which was used to deliver key information to our client’s prospects immediately following the meeting.

Using yBC’s 1:1 online video engagement technology and platform, our clients are now tracking the progress of this key information as it circulates through the prospect’s organisation.  The CEO of our client organisation has commented that the intelligence of this dynamic platform adds significantly to their ability to have impact when it really counts.

Which is a good thing, as the deal is worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

The day we shot a CEO in a hidden temple

It was one of the more unique, unexpected and dramatic locations for any shoot we’ve undertaken anywhere in the world.  When the Director of Marketing for Andaz Liverpool Street opened the doors on the room simply described as “the Temple”, all of our expectations were immediately surpassed.

Steve Gilroy in the shadows of the Masonic Temple

When the hotel was renovated some 10 years ago, the contractors were knocking through a wall to change the shape of one of the function rooms, and stumbled upon a real treasure.  A masonic temple, completely preserved after being sealed up in the 1930s, and not shown anywhere on any existing plans of the hotel.   The find was a complete surprise, and has become a secret jewel in the crown of a fabulous hotel which is right beside Liverpool Street Station in the City of London.

The Temple has an incredible atmosphere.  It is exquisitely decorated, very well preserved and clearly holds plenty of secrets.  Unfortunately, we can’t claim to be the first team to have a shot a video there.  Lady Gaga got there before us, as have numerous other celebrities.

In any case, we were delighted to shoot an interview there with Steve Gilroy, CEO of Vistage UK.  Steve heads up an organisation which brings together 600 CEOs around the UK, and is part of a wider network of thousands of CEOs globally.  What Steve doesn’t know about leadership of mid market and SME firms, is probably know worth knowing.  You’ll see his material soon on FD.tv.

Plenty of influence in London

We’re delighted to see the London Influence Channel, recently launched in conjunction with city law firm Mishcon de Reya, go from strength to strength.  Over the last few weeks, we have confirmed some significant additional editorial and distribution partners, including the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Immidtown, qype.com, and Entrepreneur Country.  With other distribution deals currently in negotiation, the London Influence Channel is set to reach a monthly business audience of over 250,000 people by mid December, and is likely to grow further into the new year.

The channel is one of more than ten channels which yBC has either launched or in the process of launching during 2011 and early 2012.  Many more are planned beyond that.

There’s nothing like feedback …

We were delighted to receive excellent feedback from a long standing Bristol based client on completion of a project recently.  A well known business publishing firm BHP Information Solutions was delighted at the series of short editorial videos yBC produced in relation to one of their online publications, Law Donut.

Ian Creek, Digital Marketing Director of the BHP Information Solutions commented:  “We needed a series of professional, attractive and well structured videos to promote our Law Donut package to lawyers. Mark and his team listened to what we needed, interpreted our brief and guided us to a fantastic result. The final videos are very impressive and we’re incredibly confident they’ll boost our sales too. Huge thanks to Mark and the yBC team.”

All too often we get positive feedback and then file it away in a folder somewhere.  So today, we decided to share the yBC love.  You’ll find more of it on LinkedIn on Mark Sinclair’s profile and the yBC company page.
