Social marketing strategy tips from Silicon Valley blogger Louis Gray

Featuring...

  • Louis Gray
Silicon Valley Blogger for technology geeks...
Highly respected blogger Louis Gray explains three steps towards building a robust social media marketing strategy:

So business people are typically reluctant to change. It is the nature of the business to be conservative and to have some tendency to not adopt the latest and greatest items that are out there. Social media has this opportunity, for those who do it right and do it early, to step ahead of the competition, regardless of size. However, proceed with caution. You would want to make sure that you do it in the right way, that you approach the right people, and you say the right things. And so I always say there's really three steps. The first step is listening. You listen and see what people are saying about you, about your brand, about your industry. Second, you engage. You go through and try and talk with customers, and you participate there. And third is you try and show an ROI. How much activity took place? How much effort was there? Was it doing the right things, and did you get the results that you expected?

Social networks might be free, but they do take some time and some effort. You clearly need to be active in each of these areas where your brand is being discussed. So whether that's on FriendFeed, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn. You need to have the availability to know that these conversations are taking place, and then go there to participate. There are free tools online which help monitor for you. So you can set up your search terms. You can get alerts on Twitter. Alerts via email for comments that are set around the blogosphere. And that can be delivered directly to your email box. When you find these things, you can go and participate, instead of having to monitor around the clock to find out if your business and your brand is being mentioned.
