When you’re searching for a really effective internet strategy to market your business, the Holy Grail is to get your customers so excited about your message they tell all their contacts about you and word is spread organically.
This is what digital marketing expert David Meerman Scott calls a World Wide Rave, and in this business TV show he explains the fourth of six rules you need to follow in your web strategy in order to have people around the world talking about you, and linking to your website or blog.
Scott begins his business development tips in the show by recalling a couple of pieces of advice he received when he was younger.
When he was a child, his grandmother told him that if he wanted to receive letters, then he had to write letters to other people first. Then, when he was in college, his friends told him if you want to meet girls, you have to go where the girls are.
So what has all that got to do with social marketing and small business growth strategy?
The answer is that the same principles apply to social marketing and web strategy as to a child hoping to receive letters or a college student wanting to meet girls.
So, if you want people to talk about you online, says Scott in his business development tips on the show, you need to go where your buyers are. So if they’re on Facebook or Twitter, you need to be there too. Ditto if they’re on blogs, forums, or chat rooms.
Scott’s social marketing advice is to put down virtual roots. Go where you buyers are, and become part of their community and the conversations that are going on. Then you’ll be on the way to creating your own World Wide Rave.
